Nostalgia – a solution I wrote is being used on about 300k+ PCs

I got reminder of this randomly by a colleague just now, forgot I wrote the thing 3+ years ago.

At the time we were battling with “The feature your are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable” in Windows Installer applications, especially on wireless networks and mobile clients.

This sort of error message annoys both users and IT admins, so as one of the improvement initiatives I wrote a solution that ensures that any windows installer application will always have access to the needed files regardless of network location availability.
My colleague mentioned that they still haven’t thought of anything better! Come to think of it, in some years it can be on more than a million devices! Good times. Will add it to my achievement box 😉
